An anti-ragging cell in a college is a dedicated administrative body or committee established to prevent and address incidents of ragging on the college campus. Ragging refers to a form of bullying or harassment that can occur in educational institutions, particularly in colleges and universities. It can involve various forms of physical, verbal, or psychological abuse, and it is often directed at new students by their seniors.
The objectives of an anti-ragging cell are as follows:
- Prevention: The cell is responsible for creating awareness among students and staff about the consequences of ragging. It conducts orientation programs, seminars, and workshops to educate students about the negative impacts of ragging and the laws against it.
- Complaint Handling: The cell serves as a platform for students and others to report incidents of ragging in a confidential and safe manner. They investigate complaints and take necessary actions against the perpetrators.
- Support and Counselling: The cell may provide support and counselling to victims of ragging to help them cope with the trauma and seek legal assistance if necessary.
- Monitoring and Reporting: The anti-ragging cell monitors the campus to ensure that no incidents of ragging occur and reports regularly to college authorities and higher education regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with anti-ragging regulations.
